In the fourth year of our partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria we created a new and exciting MIMCO x NGV collection. Our designers drew inspiration from the gallery’s exhibition, Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines. MIMCO & NGV: two Melbourne icons celebrating creativity.
We unveiled our collection in November 2019 at the incredible NGV Gala. Wearing pieces from the MIMCO x NGV collection, our special guests Isabel Lucas, Samantha Harris and Gemma Ward joined MIMCO Managing Director Sarah Rovis on the pink carpet and inside the 1980s wonderland NGV created for the evening.
Our latest MIMCO x NGV collection includes an exclusive patent leather update to our iconic Turnlock bags (complete with a pop of pink); jewellery pieces inspired by the symbols used by the Keith Haring & Jean-Michel Basquiat and created using unique mixed-media constructions; and a hand-painted graffiti script print scarf, influenced by the iconic spaces of NYC in the 1980s.
Our senior designers reflect on what makes our partnership—and the MIMCO x NGV collection—so special.
“Our jewellery capsule was inspired by the symbols used by each artist and the practices they’re so well known for.”
– Sophie, Senior Jewellery Designer
“This collaboration has been so inspiring. We went back to the 80s using patent leather on our Turnlock collection and finished it with our exclusive script print lining.”
– Carla, Senior Bags and Shoes Designer
“The words in our script print were hand-painted then layered digitally to create a dynamic feeling—in a 1980s colour palette.”
– Meg, Soft Accessories Designer
