MIMCO X OUR WATCH PANEL
4 Mar 2019
Since 2016, we have supported Our Watch by advocating for gender equality and empowering you to take action—to be part of the change. This year, the MIMCO x Our Watch campaign will focus on an essential action required in the prevention of violence against women: promoting women’s independence and decision-making.
100% of profits from our new MIMCO x Our Watch phone cases and t-shirts will help fund leadership programs that promote women’s independence and decision-making.
Last week, we launched our new campaign and collection alongside a panel of passionate men and women: Our Watch ambassadors including Charlie Pickering, Ben Brown, Hester Brown, Khadija Gbla, and Tasma Walton.
MIMCO Managing Director Sarah Rovis and Our Watch chair Natasha Stott Despoja AM opened the conversation before Q&A’s Amanda Collinge facilitated discussions around the importance of empowering women to promote their voices, and how by doing so, we can truly bring about change in our society.
While there were so many powerful moments and stories; these are just a few of our favourites… Some of our panellists shared what the MIMCO x Our Watch partnership meant to them—and to the gender equality movement.
Hester Brown | Gender Equality Advocate
“The MIMCO x Our Watch partnership is really important. MIMCO has enabled us to put together this program that will support women in gaining leadership opportunities. We say all the time that you can't be what you can’t see, so we really need to have strong empowered young women becoming the next female leaders.”
Ben Brown | AFL PLayer and Gender Equality Advocate
“I think any organisation that takes on work of this nature and work with Our Watch is fantastic. The more workplaces that are taking on work to ensure that our society is a more equal and respectful one the better. MIMCO are doing a are great job!”
Khadija Gbla | Human Rights Activist
“It really warms my heart to see a fashion brand that is so well known in Australia take responsibility for the issue of gender inequality… and really want to use their platform to truly create change. To truly create gender equality, we need to get to young women early; we need to empower them and support then; we need to start giving them the tools necessary to start breaking those glass ceilings.”
