TAKE ME WHERE I WANT TO GO...
31 Jul 2017
There’s no denying the magic that happens when you find the perfect pair of shoes.
Our latest campaign film (in collaboration with film production studio, CKOL) explores the joy and beauty of self-expression through dance...and the fact that a good pair of shoes can take you to great places.
MEET THE DIRECTORS, CKOL
Our new collection of shoes were inspired by so many wonderful things.
What inspired the concept behind the campaign film you directed for MIMCO?
We wanted to showcase the designs in MIMCO’s new shoe collection – as well as how comfortable they are – in a playful and engaging way. And what better way to do that than through DANCE?!
What was it like shooting with the MIMCO crew?
Amazing. We love the MIMCO team and the shoot was really fun.
There was great energy all-round on set, everyone was excited to make something special
and to have fun doing it.
And how did you find Melanie, the dancer for the film?
We had an open casting for dancers and were really excited when we met Melanie. We loved the playfulness of her movements, inspired by greats like Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, which we knew would make sense with the shoes.
We let the shoes inspire the dancing in each of the scenes. Our favourite moment is when Melanie does a Bob Fosse Frug in the embellished slippers, so cool.
The location for the shoot was spectacular, how did you choose the setting for the film?
The lead character is a young, independent woman and we thought this incredible house reflected the character as well as MIMCO’s quirky, luxurious vibe.
When we saw architect Robin Williams’s house we knew it was perfect. Every single detail
in the house has been meticulously considered; from the way the light falls to where all of the angles meet. It is a very special house, it’s like a sculpture.
MEET THE DANCER, MELANIE
What was it like shooting with Adam and Jessie from CKOL for our Shoe Campaign Film?
Amazing! Jessie and Adam are both so creative and fresh and bring an incredible energy to their work. I loved how they collaborated with me and made me feel so comfortable on set.
What has been your career highlight as a dancer?
There’s been many highlights but working alongside Hugh Jackman as a featured cast member in his ‘Broadway to Oz’ tour was unforgettable.
Touring the country to stadium sized crowds every night, alongside one of my idols.
Definitely a dream come true.
What inspired the choreography for this film?
The shoes! Each shoe inspired it's own feeling. Each one is very different and naturally the
body moves differently in them.
What was your favourite look from this campaign?
I think the opening look was my favourite. I love outfits that stand out and make a statement and this look certainly did that. Very feminine, very fun, very me!
MEET THE STYLIST, KATE
What inspired the styling behind the film?
The hidden message on MIMCO’s shoes ("Take Me Where I Want To Go") inspires thoughts of fantasy, fun and travel, so the styling was intended to complement the shoes, but also create a character that was interesting, quirky and colourful.
Each look needed to help tell the story of her journey, whilst also enabling movement
and freedom of expression.
What is your favourite look from this campaign?
My favourite look was probably the red spot animal dress with pink gloves, paired back with the Gravitate Platform. It was crazy and quirky, but I loved the unusual colour combinations, and the the way the shoes brought it back down to earth.
What was it like shooting with the MIMCO crew?
So fun! Whilst we had a pretty long day, we were shooting in the most amazing location and everyone on set had such a positive energy.
What are your top shoe trends for the season ahead?
I think 70's styles are key – chunky heels and statement shoes with a point of difference. MIMCO’s Perplex heels are a perfect example of this influence.
